The Daily News

Daily News is a national newspaper based in New York City. Its award-winning writers, columnists and opinion formers bring you the latest news from America’s most exciting city and around the world. Get breaking local and national news, politics and the best of sports. No one covers the Yankees, Mets and Giants like the Daily News.

In its early days, the News was the first U.S. daily printed in tabloid format, and it reached a circulation peak of more than 2.4 million copies per day in 1947. Throughout the 20th century, it struggled to compete with its even more sensational rival, the New York Post, but it retained a large and loyal reader base. In 2017, it was reported that the Daily News would be sold to Tronc, a media company owned by billionaire Mort Zuckerman.

The Yale Daily News Historical Archive contains digitized versions of the printed Yale Daily News from its inception in 1878 to the present day. These issues have been scanned and indexed, and are now accessible through the Web. This archive is open to the public and may be used free of charge. The paper is the oldest college daily in the United States and is still published every weekday when classes are in session. Its many student editors and contributors have gone on to prominent careers in journalism and public life, including William F. Buckley, Lan Samantha Chang, John Hersey, Joseph Lieberman, Sam Donaldson, Sargent Shriver, and a host of others.

In addition to its daily print edition, the News also has a daily online presence. Its website includes live news coverage of events in New York City and the surrounding area, as well as video clips and an extensive photo gallery. The site also features classified ads, comics, a sports section, and an opinion section.

It also maintains a separate digital division that offers specialized news and content for niche audiences. These offerings include a New York City edition and a national edition aimed at African Americans. Its social media pages are active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest.

The News’s website is designed to be mobile-friendly and includes a live feed of articles from its main sections. There is also an option to subscribe to the newspaper’s newsletters. The most popular of these is Here’s the Deal, which provides politics analysis that is hard to find anywhere else.

The Daily News has a long history of controversial news stories, such as its report on the 1928 execution of Ruth Snyder, which led to her husband becoming the first man to die in the electric chair. The News has also been the source of many famous quotes, including the immortal phrase “I want to know!” which was originally written as a headline in a 1915 edition. The newspaper’s original headquarters, 220 East 42nd Street near Second Avenue, is a New York City and National Historic Landmark, designed by architects John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood and featuring a giant globe and weather instruments in its lobby. It later became the model for the Daily Planet building in the first two Superman films.
